(A new lime skim coat that can be applied to boards and walls alike and is finished in a similar way to standard skim).  The magnesium Boards are them primed and skimmed using the Solo One Coat ready for their vapour open natural paint finish.  One factor that made this job a bit more satisfactory was the detailing that was used to eliminate cold bridging.  Spaceloft Aerogel insulation was used around window reveals and returns where space was low and we needed a super insulation to prevent cold bridging.

VAPOUR OPEN THERMAL UPGRADE OF LISTED BUILDING

This was quite a large install for us and involved a lot of different steps in order to complete the project to our standards.  One of the first and most important steps was to remove all the non breathable materials from the walls that had been applied during the last renovation. (No-ones fault as they just used the “best materials” available to them at that time).

Once removed the bare brick and stone walls were exposed and they had to be consolidated with a scud coat of lime.  When this was cured the first of many purge coats were applied to level the walls and also provide a Hygroscopic, capillary active and vapoUr open layer.  Following many weeks of applying the lime and waiting for it to cure it was time to install the thermal layer.  Here we used installed wood fibre insulation in between insulated studs.

(The studs were insulated with Spaceloft Aerogel insulation).  The next stage was to install the breathable wall board which was a Magnesium Silicate board which will be the carrier for the Lime Green Solo One Coat plaster Skim.
